Update: Information about the appeal
Cavern Walks shopping centre has teamed up with a host of celebrities from across the UK to launch a Christmas campaign for Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The boutique shopping centre, located on Mathew Street, is donating a Christmas tree, complete with 12 baubles each signed with a festive message from a celebrity.
The Christmas tree and baubles will be donated to Alder Hey Children's Hospital this December and will take pride of position for staff, patients and family to see in the cafeteria. Celebrities queuing up to sign the baubles include Gok Wan, who was in Liverpool this week to film Channel 4's Gok Fashion Fix, and Spice Girl Mel C, who is currently starring in Willy Russell's Blood Brothers at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
Derek Millar, Commercial Director at Cavern Walks, said of the charity campaign: 'Cavern Walks is very excited to team up with Alder Hey Children's Hospital for our Christmas Campaign. Celebrities have been very generous so far. Not only is the donation going to a fantastic cause, but it is also festive and fun for everyone visiting the hospital to enjoy.' Other celebrities who are generously supporting the campaign include cast members of Hollyoaks and Britain's Got Talent dance troupe Diversity, who are performing at the Liverpool Echo Arena on the 10th December.
Rachel Donohoe, Fundraising Executive at Alder Hey said: 'Alder Hey is one of the biggest and busiest children's hospitals in Europe, so any donation made to the trust is invaluable, especially at Christmas. We would like to thank Cavern Walks for their support and the celebrities who have donated their time to sign a bauble for us. We are delighted to be able to have the tree on view for everyone to see over the festive period.'

Hi Fan-ily!!!The first two shows for Here Come The Girls went very smoothly and the audiences were amazing and fuelled us ladies on stage!!!
Thanks to all the familiar faces who supported these shows, it was the best Christmas present for me!!!!
I included a pic that was taken before I went on stage at the first show....((-:
The show is so much fun for me especially with the amazing band and the fantastic horn section!!!
I know I will be seeing even more beautiful familiar faces throughout this tour and I wanted to send a BIG Thank You to all who have and will come to the show!!! I never ever take this for granted and continue to be deeply touched by the support you guys give me!!!
Because of the very strenuous schedule, I may not be able to say hello after the show.....I am determined to stay in good voice for all 16 shows and with 3 in a row, I need to reserve my voice!!!
I send you all a warm hug and hello from the stage....I have you all in my heart for each and every show!!!!

Anastacia taps into girl power for Cardiff show
HERE Come The Girls and they’re more determined than ever to put on a show. The package tour featuring pop dames Anastacia, Lulu and Heather Small takes the stage at the Cardiff International Arena next week with one aim – to celebrate womanhood.
That’s according to Anastacia anyway.
The singer has been plugging away at showbusiness since the early ’90s, first of all as a dancer before committing herself full-time to cranking out the big-voiced soul belters that became her trademark.
Click here to find out more!
Now she’s back on tour with a lengthy jaunt around Britain with her fellow female stars.
It’s second time around for her, following last year’s successful outing, and it finds her in an interesting position.
Taking to the stage alongside Lulu, the original little woman with a giant voice, sees her installed as one of pop’s grandees, no longer the up-and-coming slugger, but a more stately figure. But don’t think for a minute that her essential spark has been in anyway dimmed, she warns.
“Hey, we’re all pretty full-on you know. When we get going there’s no holding us back,” she says.
“I couldn’t say no when Lulu came back with the proposition of doing all this all over again.
“I absolutely had to do it. It’s all about celebrating women and womanhood and having fun,” she says.
“I mean with these guys you get 100% commitment and a huge sense of enjoyment of music and I think that comes across as soon as we get on stage. Last year we had Chaka Khan, now we’ve got Heather, it’s a thrill to be back.”
It’s possible to imagine that Anastacia’s robust and easy-going nature has come at a price. Her personal life has been somewhat tempestuous at times, including a three-year marriage to bodyguard Wayne Newton, and she has been dogged with health problems for years – suffering as she does from Crohn’s disease and overcoming a bout of breast cancer in 2003.
She has spoken in the past about her difficulties coping with her own feelings, of the negative effect that stress and pressure has on her Crohn’s and the importance of keeping her persona open and positive.
“I feel like I do have quite a lot of strength in me,” she says.
“Kind of the ‘I am woman, hear me roar’ thing. But I think I’ve always been that way, it’s not necessarily because of what I’ve been through. To get along in this business, you’ve got to be pretty tough and determined and all of those things. As long as you’re not a terrible person, I mean, all that stuff’s okay. But it can be hard, there can be negative people out there. You just have to keep going and not let it drag you down.”
As a 42-year-old woman in a notoriously aged-obsessed business, surrounded by starlets like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez whose careers began burgeoning long before they turned 18, she does admit that taking stock has become somewhat more important of late.
“Yeah, I’m definitely aware of the fact that I’m at a stage in my career where I might have to think about what I’m doing and where I’m going, but then again there’s another part of me that is just completely crazy,” she says.
“There’s some tension there, it’s a balancing act for sure, but that’s something I’ve always had, the two different sides of me – the grown up, sensible, career-minded woman and the crazy girl. It’s always about playing one off against each other and hoping it turns out okay. It usually goes to s*** but that’s the way it goes.”
This summer found Anastacia putting in a spell behind the judges’ desk on Five’s Glee-referencing talent show Don’t Stop Believing. Given that she got her first break courtesy of MTV’s star-search The Cut, it must have been a fairly odd situation in which to find herself.
“Well, you know I do feel like I’ve had an enormous amount of luck and that I’m very privileged to be in this position and doing what I’m doing,” she says.
“So when I find myself in a position where I can offer advice, where I’m being asked to do that, I’m not going to be shy. Though I’m not the sort of person who gives personal advice without being asked. At least I hope I’m not anyway. But seeing it from the place I’m at now, I think I’ve done okay. It makes me quite proud of myself and I think that’s okay.”

Basler Zeitung Interview

An interview with Anastacia has appeared in the Basler Zeitung. Thanks very much to the Swiss fanclub for providing the scans! I managed a quick translation (at the expense of quality, but I hope you'll excuse me :)) for those who don't speak German, so we can all enjoy it.
Music won’t run away from me
The American singer (42) about her artistic break and charity work
Anastacia Newkirk is one of the greatest female popstars of the last ten years. The night before her AVO Session concert, she explained why her charity engagements are more important to her today than chart positions.
Only 45 minutes did Anastacia stand on the stage of the Messe-Festsaal on Wednesday. To her fans’ disappointment. The singer interrupted her artistic break and was apparently unable to rehearse a “whole-evening” repertoire. However, even with the short performance, the American made it clear what a powerful-voiced singer she is. A cannon on stage – and a fighter in life. She has suffered from Crohn’s disease since she was 13. In 2003, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and she fought it successfully.
Anastacia, Greek for “the resurrected one”, has been true to her name. She doesn’t let herself be defeated by fate. And she doesn’t give up. Only in the age of 32 did her breakout come – late for the pop-business emphasis on youthfulness. That’s why she made a compromise she regretted, as she asserted several times: she changed her alleged age to five years younger at the wish of her record company. Today, Anastacia is officially 42 – and the mistress of her own destiny to make her own decisions, as she males clear in the BaZ interview.
Anastacia, your last performance in Basel was six years ago, in front of an aufience of 9000 people. You’re not on tour at the moment. Was the club-atmosphere of AVO Session exciting enough for you to interrupt your break?
Such special performances interest me, yes. I have reached a point in my career where I can view all my opportunities objectively. That’s very exciting.
It’s been quiet around you for well over a year now. Why?
Because my career, how shall I put it, has to find itself. The music industry is under change, that’s party why I allowed myself to some time out. I wanted to find out where I want to go, which potential next steps make sense. The record companies nowadays want to downright possess you and so make up for their losses that the shift towards the internet has brought – and will keep on bringing. So I must make a choice as an artist: do I sell myself as a brand to a company. Or do I limit myself on a contract with a record distributor, have more freedom, but also take a bigger risk and have more expenses. I have checked all the possibilities and can see through now.
And which way have you decided for?
I won’t make that public yet. I can confirm though that I’m recording a new album next year. I’m in no hurry with it, because music is not running away from me. I love music, but I am very patient about these things.
You have already proven your patience before. You declined a lot of offers in the 90s because you wanted to be a country or hip-hop singer. Instead, you got by as a background singer, dancer and waitress, until the industry’s offers suited you after an appearance in an MTV talent-show.
That’s right. I wasn’t sure if the long wait would pay off. But I just couldn’t imagine changing myself into a country singer and feel good about it. Pop, rock, soul, those are the styles I feel comfortable in. I have to definitely believe in my lyrics and my music. I realised this again after I had forgotten about it for a long time.
What do you mean?
I tried to discover a new Anastacia a few years ago, and lost myself in the process.
How did that happen?
I suddenly found myself boring, I told myself: You still look exactly like the same Anastacia that made the breakthrough in 2000. I found that a weakness, stagnation, I changed my hair-style, my looks, tried to explore different ways musically, flirted with the “urban sound”. Yet I was untrue to myself, and later realised that I cannot run away from myself: I’m a city-child with a love for soul-rock. Never mind if it’s popular or not.
Although extremely popular in Europe, you’re less successful in the USA. Perhaps also because you don’t want to join the “Bling-Bling” fraction?
Possibly. Of course, I could work with the hottest video-maker and the best-known rapper, and so seek success in my coutry. But that’s not how I work.
The heart plays a great role with you. This shows in the fact that you established a foundation after defeating breast cancer and have been notably active in charity. These activities seem to have as much importance in your life as music.
That’s true. I know that my career is a blessing. But I don’t need the assurance of being number one in the charts. Based on my experiences – my brother is an autist, I have Crohn’s and had to fight breast cancer – it is more important for me to speak about these things, to raise awareness in people and raise money. In the hope of being able to contribute a little bit to making our world a little more bearable. That’s more important than being at the top of the hit parades.
Even though that could happen to you again with your next album.
(laughs) If that’s the case, it will mean even more charity, more money I would invest into charity. You have to know: In 1998 I still wanted to study psychology and then do social work with children.
You’ve always had to fight again and again. Your voice is notably powerful. Is there a correlation?
Good question. I guess so. I have never sung into the shower head, dreamt of life popstar-life in front of the mirror, or rehearsed the words I’d use to thank for an award. I have simply brought my feelings out in my singing. I know today that that’s my purpose.
Even before your performance, you received bunches of flowers here in Basel. Especially female fans thank you for giving them strength with your voice and biographical lyrics.
It’s fascinating to see that I have obviously become a role model for some people. This gives me even more strength, assures me to stay myself. That I have to take some roundabouts in the process simply belongs to it, as the past has taught me.
