Shopping at Tesco, London 29th July

Anastacia was spotted shopping in Tesco after working out at a Bikram Yoga studio in Richmond, London. Responsibly, she used re-usable 'life bags' to carry her groceries, but her green credentials were slightly undermined when she sped off in a taxi, rather than using public transport. Check out Sarah's site where she has uploaded 45 HQ candids.

Anastacia: 5 minutes with a diva

The Don’t Stop Believing judge and singing sensation, 41, on her outrageous demands (for crisps), and diva strops (oh yes)…

What does ‘diva’ mean to you?
In the beginning it was about untouchable stars who had temper tantrums, then divas became respected women in the industry who didn’t compare to many others. I don’t get offended if someone calls me a diva. I’m a way more down-to-earth person than a diva. We all have diva moments, and if we say we haven’t – LIES!

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to throwing a diva strop?
I don’t ask for outrageous things, but I have lost it, been at my wits end, cried and been tired… Which can be seen as diva moments, but I’m not meaning to, I’m just exhausted.

What’s on your rider?
Diet Coke and Doritos. I don’t ask for fresh food, because I don’t want it to spoil.

If you had the balls, what outrageous thing would you ask for on your rider?
I have heard of people asking for rooms to be painted a different colour. I couldn’t do that, because I’d feel so guilty. But this is a really weird business. Some people will say yes to anything that makes the artist happy.

Have you ever said ‘Do you know who I am?’
I’ve said it to friends as a joke, but I stand in lines outside restaurants, I don’t care. I do this for the love of singing, not for the clubs and restaurants I can get into. I’ve only ever used my name as a last resort.

Has it ever not worked?
Of course! Especially in America.

What’s your diva style?
The first four years of my career was navel out – it was the only thing I knew how to do. It was my fashion statement – it was like crop top in the winter ‘sounds good’ in the summer ‘sounds good’. Apparently, some days it’s good to keep your clothes on.

What’s the biggest diva demand you’ve made?
I was in Russia doing a video at midnight and I put on a white dress, which turned out to be see-through. I didn’t want anyone to see my its and bits, so I asked for a pair of Spanx. I didn’t know it was hard to get them in Russia. I said I didn’t care if they were used, I’d wash and dry them. I was told a pair would be there in 45 minutes. Two hours later they arrived – and they had been driven across Russia. The shoot had been delayed for my Spanx to get there! I must have looked like the world’s biggest diva, but I had no idea it would be so much of a problem.

What makes you pinch yourself?
I always go back to singing with Elton John right at the beginning of my career at Madison Square Garden, New York. I thought he was going to kiss my hand, but he kissed my navel. I know he is gay, but it still felt as guiltily girly as a first kiss.

Who is the biggest new diva of the moment?
Leona Lewis – she was a diva before she even won X Factor. But I mean diva as in an artist who doesn’t have a normal talent. Leona is still a very normal person, but her talent is not normal.

Do you have diva mates?
Me and my friends talk about who’d be our celebrity BFF. You know, when you see someone in an interview and you think you’d totally connect with them. I always say Julia Roberts. Although she probably doesn’t know who I am.

How big is your entourage?
I have a person who does my hair and make-up, and my sister travels with me as my assistant. I have security if I’m in any of the Spanish or Latin-American countries where they’re quite grabby. In England you guys are so poised – people know who I am, but they’d never try to pull my hair out, but in Spain they suck my face off. If I’m doing promo it can look like I have a huge entourage because my manager and my agent and the band are with me, but that doesn’t happen every day.

You seem remarkably normal…
I’m sorry – I sound more like diva-don’t than diva-do.

What keeps your feet on the ground?
I come from nowhere, and my career didn’t happen until I was 30, but I’ve been blessed with a family that has shown me a guiding light. My younger brother, Brian, has autism – he will always be a full-grown kid – and he has constantly grounded our entire family. If I ever feel a bit too grown up, Brian will bring me right back to reality, but he’s totally yummy.

See Don’t Stop Believing on Sundays, five, 7pm

HCTG & Natalia Meets Anastacia news

Sarah has written a lovely report of what happened when she met Anastacia after Don't Stop Believing on Sunday.

She can tell us that Here Come The Girls will tour the UK again and tickets will go on sale at the start of September, probably the 7th.

The name of the duet Natalia and Anastacia have recorded is called something like "Burning Star". (Sarah got distracted by Anastacia's glasses at that point so this might not be the exact name.) It will be a soulful and moving song! The shows in belgium will be about 3 hours long and Anastacia will be singing about 13 of her own songs. It will be like the Here Come The Girls concerts with solo and duet performances.

A big thanks to Sarah for all this news! We are very glad you had an amazing time with Anastacia! You can read her full report here.

Anastacia nicer than Cowell - interview

Anastacia will be "no Simon Cowell" in her new role as a talent search judge.

The 'One Day In Your Life' hitmaker - who appears on the judging panel of new Five reality show 'Don't Stop Believing' - hasn't got as harsh a tongue as the music mogul, because she doesn't want to "crush people's dreams".

She told BANG Showbiz: "I really don't want to crush too many people's dreams along the way. I'm an honest person, but I don't believe in cruelty. I think you can be kind without having to lie.

"I'm certainly no Simon Cowell, but I'm no Paula Abdul either. I'm going to try and be a combination of the both."

The show - which will see Anastacia judge contestants alongside Blue star Duncan James, actress Tamzin Outhwaite and choreographer Charles 'Chucky' Klapow - is said to be a cross between 'The X Factor' and hit US musical TV show 'Glee', and is to be hosted by former Spice Girl Emma Bunton.

However, Anastacia admits she initially found it difficult to abandon her singing roots.

She said: "The fact that I'm a judge on the show is me filling completely different shoes to begin with. Picking up a microphone and talking, rather than singing, into it was very strange at first!"

Anastacia: 'I'm a reality TV junkie' - Digital Spy

Don't Stop Believing judge Anastacia has admitted that she is a huge reality TV fan.

The 'I'm Outta Love' singer said that she watched all sorts of US and UK reality programmes and confessed that one of her favourites was I'm A Celebrity.

Speaking to DS at the launch of DSB, she said: "I am a little bit of a junkie fan of all these shows. Even I'm A Celebrity! I will watch all of them. We have tons of them in America that you don't even know about.

"I get so jazzed up on these shows. You get so into the characters, the groups and the artists. It's really interesting, how you can have your own addiction to them."

When asked if she would consider entering the jungle, she said: "I really wish I could go in [the jungle]! I would never eat a bug. I would never swallow anything mixed to not look like a bug. I would not sleep with a bug. So there goes that show!

"But I would love to be the extra presenter with Ant & Dec. In a nice hotel on the high ground. I could be the extra girl in their coffee.

"And then with the Strictly, Dancing With The Stars thing, I get sick with all the spinning around. So I'm a total mess basically and I'll stick to the judging."

Explaining the difference between DSB and other TV talent contests, the popstar added: "This show is not based on just the number of high notes that a person can sing. They have to be across the board, very good at a lot of things. Not necessarily the best in the game at just one skill. That's where it becomes different from just singing or just dancing shows."

Don't Stop Believing starts on Sunday at 7pm on Five.

BBC Radio 2 Interview

Anastacia has just been interview by Radio 2 and she talked about Don't Stop Believing and much more. She confirmed that she has left her record label and she is not looking for a new one at the moment. This was an unexpected piece of information!

Update: The Official Fanclub have some new info for us. Anastacia has been unsigned for a few months now so this news is not really new. And while she was with Sony she changed labels a few times. So it isn't something we need to worry about.

You can listen to it again by downloading it here. Thanks to Marli for uploading.
Mariana has uploaded the interview to youtube. Listen below :)

Digital Spy - Emma Bunton Interview

Emma Bunton has been talking about Anastacia in one of her interviews and says that she is going to be hard to control on the show! You can read and watch the intwerview below. Thanks to Mariana for letting me know!

Bunton: 'Anastacia is hard to control'

Emma Bunton has claimed that it is going to be hard controlling Anastacia on Don't Stop Believing.

The Spice Girl and host of the new Five reality show said that the 'I'm Outta Love' singer is the most unpredictable member of the judging panel.

"She's perfect for this judging panel. She's come from an industry where she's been all over the world and she knows what she's looking for," Bunton told DS. "She's going to say exactly what she feels, and I love that... but I think she's going to be very hard to control!"

Bunton and Anastacia will be joined by Duncan James, Tamzin Outhwaite and Chucky Kaplow on the judging team for the musical performance talent show.

Joking about the possibility that one of the acts may perform a Spice Girls classic, Bunton added: "You'll have to hold me back! I'll be up there having a dance and they'll be saying 'get off!' I don't think that's going to happen, though. They are going to be doing very contemporary tracks."

Reveal Magazine Interview.

Reveal Magazine have published an interview and a photo from Don't Stop Believing. Anastacia mentions that she would love to have a family one day and talks a little bit about the new show she will be a judge on, Don't Stop Believing. You can read the inteview below.

Update: I have uploaded scans of the magazine. Click on the images to see the full size.

'In 10 year's time? I just want to be alive!'

With one of the biggest voices in the music industry, Anastacia has belted out songs about never being defeated, surviving misery and life going on. And she's living proof of that, no matter what's thrown at you: 'You have to get back up again.'

She's been battling the digestive disorder Crohn's disease since she was 13, has survived breast cancer, has a rare heart condition, and is currently going through a painful marriage break-up. So the title of her new TV show Don't Stop Believing couldn't be more appropriate.

'The title very much represents me and what I like to stand for. I've never lost faith, no matter how crazy the cards have been,' she says. 'You fall apart first, but then you have to get back up. Even if you crash and burn, then you move on.'

Born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk, the 41-year-old singer has a huge smile and an even bigger personality when we meet, as her voice booms around the cosy drawing room of London's Soho House.

Only the subject of her recent marriage split is off limits, as she tells us she's not one for regrets: 'I don't really believe in them. Instead, I call them "oops moments" and try to learn from them.'

Despite the sunny personality, the Chicago-born star tells us she's been through more in her life than most, and has learnt to take each day as it comes. 'I don't worry about the cancer coming back,' she says. 'I deal with it on a day-today basis and have annual check-ups. If I worried about it, I wouldn't be able to move on. We waste too much time worrying about tomorrow.

'When I'm asked where I want to be in five or ten years' time, I say I just want to be alive and healthy - touch wood.'

The only thing she will admit to hoping for is a family. In April this year, Anastacia filed for divorce from husband Wayne Newton, her bodyguard before the couple married in April 2007. During the marriage, she was a stepmother to his two sons and they had decided not to have children together. Now she reveals she would love children one day, saying: 'Having children has been a hope for me since I was very young. For a period of time [when I was married] I was saying no, but i'd have to be 60 to give up hope.

'I would adopt, like Sandra Bullock. There doesn't have to be a father, a mother, two dogs and 2.5 children to be a perfect family.'

Until Anastacia is ready to face that challenge, she's looking forward to her approaching 42nd birthday and: 'Graciously accepting my wrinkles as they come along.' But she does confess to having Botox: 'Without it, my frown scares me, let alone everyone else! I get it from my mym who has a perma-frown. It's a family trait. So I prefer to get rid of it with Botox in two places on my forehead.

'I've been having botox since 2003. That's when I went to have my breasts reduced and found out I had cancer. When you walk into a plastic surgery clinic, you find out about all the stuff there is out there.'

She adds: 'I would have surgery if I felt like I needed it. I think it can be addictive if you have poor self-image but I'm alright with the way that I look, although it's taken a long time to get here.'

'Everything I've been through has affected my confidence. It's all chiselled away at my core. But there's always a bit of putty to mend it. It's sexier now with a little scar of chip. I'm definately growing more comfortable in my skin.

'When I was a teenager, I was a tomboy and the ugly girl of the group. I still kind of think that way, but I'm happier now when I catch sight of myself in the mirror.'

And what about being watched by millions as a judge on Five's new talent show, Don't Stop Believing?

'I just hope I'll be a good judge,' she smiles. 'Luckily, I'm not the only American on the panel, so hopefully I won't need subtitles.'

Five's Don't Stop Believing starts on Sunday 18th July.

Digital Spy - Chucky Kaplow interview

Chucky Kaplow talked about Anastacia being on his ipod in one of his interviews!

Do you know much about your fellow judges?

"Well I worked with a pop group in Sweden in 2001, 2002, and around that time I became really familiar with Duncan. I know all about him and have a couple of his CDs. Anastacia is on my iPod! These people were in the forefront of music when I was working with my pop group. I was just thinking about it, I actually think Anastacia may have shared a stage with me at some music awards ceremony back then. I'm a big fan of all of them, so it's an added bonus of the show to get to work alongside these people who I listen to and respect."

Anastacia & Natalia Interview

A new interview from Natalia & Anastacia was published in one of belgium's popular magazines, Dag Allemaal. You can see scans here and read the interview below.

In the interview the reporter tells us about some things like the fact that Anastacia requested 80’s music to move around to, that there was a big buffet and that during the shoot Natalia’s car was broken into and police fortunately caught the thieves with her GPS. A funnier thing was how Anastacia told Natalia that during a shoot you always have to think of sex to get good pictures!

Anastacia: Yesterday I saw Natalia for the first time, we went to an Italian restaurant and kept talking untill the middle of the night.
I had a feeling Natalia and me would click, but it’s way better then that, we think alike about mostly everything.
Is that right Natalia?

Natalia: Absolutely, we even finish each other’s sentences. As an 18 year old girl I always sang along to I’m Outta Love, it’s so amazing to have her sit next to me right now, and in a little while even be on stage with me.

You just know eachother personally and there is a connection already.

Anastacia: We both have a similar history also, we where both discoverd in a talent show where we both ended up second, and Natalia is as tall as I want to be and as tall as I think I am, untill I look in the mirror (laughs)
Natalia: And more important, we have the same sense of humor! Anastacia is very funny and very easy goin and says what’s on her mind.

There are probably also differences?

Natalia: I am 20cm lager then her, and that does not matter. We are who we are. Music wise it a perfect match, we both have the same fire, so sparks will fly at the Sportpaleis! Performing with The Pointer Sisters and En vougue was also nice and very fun, but I am alot closer with Anastacia already then I was with them, and Anastacia has alot of cool idea’s for the shows already.

Anastacia, you did not know Natalia before, and still you wanted to sing with that Belgian singer?
Anastacia: They send me the dvd of Natalia Meets En Vogue feat Shaggy and I was sold instantly! Before I sang with people like Eros Ramazzotti or Celine Dion but honestly I expect alot more from working with Natalia. I don’t care that she is only famous in Belgium, I think she’s just amazing.
How do you want to prepare the concerts when u are living on other sides of the World?

Natalia: I was already planning to spend 3 months in the US before this meets show came up, so it will be easy to meet up with Anastacia there and already do some rehearsals.

Anastacia: And I am coming back to Belgium this year for sure, I have been asked to do a show in London, so Natalia and me will meet up really soon again. We are goin to have alot of fun.

-

There will be a single for the Natalia Meets Anastacia concerts! The musical director or the Meets shows, Hans Francken has posted this:
"Back in the studio, having Natalia and Anastacia in separate tracks on my mixingdesk, quite special. Firework!!!"
